Leontýnce je dnes jedenáct let a víme, že je spokojená a šťastná, že má svůj způsob komunikace, kterým se s námi doma domlouvá, kterým si říká o své potřeby, co by chtěla. Víme, že miluje svého bratříčka, že ho dokáže požádat třeba o bonbón, že ho respektuje a že si k ní může dovolit více než my rodiče. Sednou si vedle sebe na pohovku a koukají společně na pohádku, dokážou se vzájemně pohladit, povzbudit, pohrát.

Ale nebylo tomu tak vždy. Ve dvou a třičtvrtě letech, kdy už jsme tušili, že se s Leontýnkou něco děje, ale pořád jsme nevěděli co, onemocněla laryngitídou a dostali jsme se do nemocnice. Týnka v té době již neřekla žádné slovíčko, přesto, že už v roce dokázala stát u dětského časopisu a popisovat co je na obrázcích, uměla pojmenovat členy rodiny, uměla říct, jak které zvířátko dělá - jaká je jeho řeč:-). Nechtěla absolutně spolupracovat se sestřičkami a lékaři. Tam jsme se poprvé setkali s tím, že mají podezření na dětský autismus.

Když jsme pak přijeli domů a probrali jsme toto podezření s rodiči, podívali se na internet a vyhledali si, opravdu jsme zjistili, že máme doma dítě s autismem. Do teď i když už je to více jak osm let si pamatuji, jak jsme stáli s manželem naproti sobě, po tvářích nám stékaly slzy a Vláďa řekl, "co s ní bude, až my tu nebudeme?" "kdo se o ní postará?"

A to je přesně ten okamžik, kdy jsme věděli a chtěli vybudovat domov pro Leontýnku a další děti se stejnou diagnózou.

Leontynka is 11 years old now and we know that she is content and happy, that she has her own way of communicating her needs and wishes to us. We know that she loves her brother, that she can ask him for a sweet, that she respects him, and he can do more with her than us as parents. They will sit together on the sofa and they will watch a film together, they can stroke each other, encourage each other and play together. But it wasn’t always this way. When Leontynka was almost 3 years old we had a feeling that something wasn’t quite right with her, but we didn’t know what it was. She got laryngitis and we went to hospital. Tynka wasn’t able to say a word at that point despite her being able to describe pictures in a magazine, name members of the family, make the noises animals make (what their speech is) as early as 1 year old.  In the hospital she didn’t cooperate with the nurses or the doctors, and we were first met with the suspicion of Autism diagnosis.

When we got home, we discussed this suspicion with our parents, we searched the internet and we realised that we really do have a child with Autism at home. I remember as if it was yesterday standing opposite to my husband, tears were coming down both of our faces and Vlada said ‘What will happen to her when we are not around anymore?’, ‘Who will look after her?’.

And exactly in that moment we knew that we want to build a home for Leontynka and other children with the same diagnosis.
